Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours? We are open for individual lessons daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Holidays may affect these hours. We hold weekly camps throughout the summer for young children (ages 5-9), youths (ages 10-16), and adults (ages 16+). We also conduct camp during Winter and Spring break. Information on all camp activities can be found on our Events page.

What health and safety measures are in place at the barn?Part of your lesson includes learning how to work with horses in a safe manner for everyone - humans and animals alike. Any time you are unsure how to proceed or feel unable to safely perform a task, our staff will be more than happy to assist you. If you and/or your child have flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, chills, etc.) or are experiencing nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea , we ask that you contact us to re-schedule your lesson. In case of inclement weather, shelter in place orders, or natural disasters, Laurel Nobilis will contact any students whose lessons may be affected and work to re-schedule them if possible.
-
Is there an age limit for riding lessons? We evaluate each student on a case-by-case basis. So long as the student is physically able to perform the tasks required for riding, and, in the case of young children, have parental consent, we are able to accommodate a wide range of ages. While our staff is able to assist riders with special needs and minor mobility issues, we recommend that you contact us using the form below to arrange a free tour and to discuss you (or your child's) individual needs.
-
What clothing should I wear during lessons? You will need long pants, and close-toed shoes or boots with a small heel and good support. Riding boots are highly recommended. It is not necessary for you to purchase expensive gear to get started, and we can provide you with information on what you need. Sandals and flip-flops are not appropriate footwear. Additionally, shorts, skirts, and baggy or loose pants are not permitted for lessons. Sneakers and jeans are okay for beginners. While our riding arena is indoors and protected from wind, rain, snow, and sun, it is not climate controlled. So in the summer, you'll want to make sure that you will not overheat by wearing a lightweight top and staying hydrated. In the colder temperatures, we recommend you wear a warm jacket and gloves. For information on what safety gear is required for riding, please see "What safety gear is required for riders?"

What safety gear is required for riders? The safety of our students, horses, and staff is of the utmost importance here at Laurel Nobilis. All riders are required to wear a properly-fitting riding helmet during lessons. We have a supply of loaner helmets that you may borrow if needed, and we can recommend a brand and size for you to purchase as well. Loaner helmets are cleaned between uses. Though not required, we recommend all students (regardless of age) wear a safety vest. It is especially designed to reduce the risk of injury to the rider's torso in case of a fall or impact. We can help you in finding a vest that's right for you. Please see our FAQ on "What should I wear during lessons" as choosing the right clothing will improve your comfort and mobility during your lesson.
-
How much do lessons cost?We have several lesson options available, so it's best to contact us using the form below so we can tailor lessons to your needs!

What can I expect at my/my child's lesson? We ask that you arrive on time for your lesson. Arriving early is even better! Being more than 10 minutes late may result in the cancellation of your lesson, so do please let us know if you're running late. At Laurel Nobilis, we don't just teach riding - we teach all aspects of caring for a horse. This includes haltering, tacking up, and grooming before your ride, and picking hooves, any additional grooming, unsaddling, and putting away all gear after your ride. And we cannot forget the all important cookies for a job well done! Parents are welcome to watch and learn along with their children, and we have a special observation room where you will have an excellent view of the arena and your child's riding lesson. We encourage all students to be curious and ask questions. We enjoy sharing our love for these beautiful creatures and want your experience to be a positive one.
